Assess before quoting
Every heavy item gets a look at the route out before a price exists. A figure given from a description alone is a figure that gets revised on the morning, when you have no realistic way to refuse it.
About us
Heavy Removals is a UK removals company with a heavy and bulky item specialism, working nationwide and into four European countries.
Most removal firms will take a piano. What they will not always do is look at the staircase first, size the crew for it, and tell you before the day if it is not coming out that way. That gap — between will move it and can move it properly — is what this firm is organised around.
The rest of the work is ordinary. Houses, flats, offices, part loads, long runs across the country. Most jobs contain one or two difficult pieces and the difficult pieces are what decide how the day actually goes, so we start there and work outwards.
Because "Heavy" is the name of the firm, not the name of a place, and inventing a home town to look local in a search result would be dishonest. Heavy items and long-distance moves are not local-radius work — a safe in Northumberland and a piano in Devon are both a planned day out either way. So we schedule around the job and say so plainly on the coverage page, including the cases where a firm on your own street is genuinely the better call.

The number of people on a job comes from what is being carried. Sending two to a four-person item is how furniture, buildings and backs get damaged, and it is the commonest corner cut in this trade.
Occasionally something genuinely cannot come out the way it went in. You will hear that at survey, with the alternatives, rather than halfway down a staircase with an audience.
We move things. We do not disconnect gas, we do not do plumbing, we are not clearance contractors, and we are not structural engineers. Where one of those is the right answer, we say so.
We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover. The limits, the exclusions and the process for reporting a problem are in the booking terms, and we would rather you read them before you commit than afterwards. Anything of unusual value — an instrument, a piece of equipment, a collection — should be declared at survey so it is properly accounted for rather than treated as ordinary household furniture.
Trade body logos we have not earned. Certification marks. Award ribbons. Star ratings with nowhere to go and check them. A count of years in business, or of moves completed, or of customers served. All of those are easy to type and hard to verify, and a firm asking you to trust it with a piano should start by not printing things it cannot stand behind.
If any of that changes, it will appear here with something verifiable attached.
Heavy item removals is the specialism in detail, and pianos separately. The services page covers everything else, and coverage explains how a nationwide firm without a base town actually plans work. If you already know what you need, the quote form takes a couple of minutes.
Plenty do, especially about the difficult items. Ring or send a note and we will answer questions without steering you towards a booking.
